Hold the GOP Accountable for Moral Cowardice on Same-Sex Marriage

Cross-Posted at Love, Joy, Feminism

Okay, so I’m going to say flat out that I, as a black American, just don’t have the spoons to deal with the South Carolina church shooting, if simply because it’s yet another example in a long line of such terrorism, whether state sanctioned or individually motivated.

Moving on … if the United States Supreme Court rules the way it should on Obergefell v. Hodges, there’s a very good chance that legal recognition of same-sex marriage will become the law of the land.  If and when that should happen, feel free to celebrate your asses off.  If not, keep your chin up.  “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

The truly hypocritical mess in all of this is that many GOP leaders and individuals privately support same-sex marriage and/or QUILTBAG individuals (especially within their own families … or are closeted QUILTBAG individuals themselves) … while doing everthing in their power to deprive those same indivdiuals of their full human rights.

Hold their feet to the fire if same-sex marriage becomes federally recognized.  Just remember what they did, how vicious and mean-spirited they were when they did it, and how they will probably continue to do so on the state level if they do an about face here.  Chastise them for the moral cowardice they routinely display by tacitly and explicitly allowing their party to be the last refuge of bigotry.

  1. I’ve been browsing online more than 4 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be much more useful than ever before.
