Christian Mingle’s QUILTBAG Erasure

*** Cross-Posted at Roll To Disbelieve ***

I created a fake Christian Mingle account as a black woman (I’m a black man).  I pretty much indicated in my profile that I’m seriously agnostic leaning towards deconversion (I’m actually an atheist) and I quote black and/or QUILTBAG women (I’m heterosexual).  All the clues are there to highly suggest I’m pretty much looking for women.

Who are my default CM search results?  All dudes.  Because the site doesn’t account for individuals looking for relationships with people of the same gender, the agendered, or any other non-straight possibilities.  Heck, it assumes you’re either a “man” or a “woman” and doesn’t account for differences there, either.

I hate to pick on poor old Christian Mingle (I’m sure other secular dating sights aren’t that great with diversity) and I’m totally not going to lead anyone on (fuck those paid “membership” services, though).  However, I’m going to leave my account up anyway just to see if anyone there really picks up what I’m putting down.

Oh, and vet everyone in any dating site, people, because … seriously. {*** ALL THE CONTENT WARNINGS ***}

Edit: Apparently, I missed the news on this. …

ChristianMingle Lawsuit Forces Site to Add Options for Gay Daters: For the first time in 11 years, same-sex couples can find “God’s match for you” on the site.

This is somewhat misleading.  What you can do is search for someone of the “same” gender … after the website defaults to search for someone for you of the “opposite” gender.  It doesn’t explicitly allow you to search for others and set your profile as QUILTBAG.  You have to apply a workaround (I guess to appease the bigots that would freak out if you were explicitly out in their limited, presumably fundamentalist world).
