Be better. Don’t just appear to be better.

What is an example of someone (ideally, but not necessarily a public figure) successfully reversing a label of being a racist, a sexual abuser, or antisemitic?

There are people that successfully stop being racist, bigoted, and sexually abusive.

However, the dynamics of abuse and privilege more successfully stop abusers and bigots from recognizing their abuse and bigotry as such.

So much so that they’re more worried about being perceived as bigoted and abusive rather than actually being bigoted and abusive.

These are the “I have / I’ve had sex with minorities, therefore how can I be racist?” racists. {Ann Coulter}

These are the “She/He/They never said no, therefore how can I be a rapist?” rapists. {Bill Cosby}

These are the “Some of my best friends are Jewish/Arab/Native American!” bigots. {Mel Gibson}

These are the “pussy grabbing” hoteliers who blow off their misogyny and sexually abusive nature with “locker room talk” … and still maintain traction with enough similarly problematic Americans to [a] get elected president and [b] try to downplay their bigotry by appointing women to political office.

It’s not enough to reverse a “label.” There are too many examples to count of people who appeared to be “woke” who end up being the exact opposite of that (Louis C.K., Hugo Schwyzer, etc., ad nauseum). You’ve got to wonder if they seek out deceptive self-designations intentionally to prevent their more accurate, less flattering natures from being exposed and taken to task.
