Consent Culture Now, Please.

Have we been desensitized to violence against women because of the #metoo movement?

Quite the opposite, actually.

Here’s the sequence of events, as experienced by me (a cisgender, heterosexual man who considers himself down for QUILTBAG rights, social justice, and feminism):

  1. #metoo started.
  2. Self-reports of enduring sexual harassment, molestation, abuse, and rape were initially made (mostly, but not exclusively, by women of color).
  3. The reports exponentially took off far in excess of what I expected, even though I knew it was bad.
  4. Even though the reports came streaming in, I still know this is a fraction of actual sexual harassment, molestation, abuse, and rape that actually occurs.

I am more sensitized to violence against women (and anyone that suffers violations of their emotional, mental, and bodily autonomy) because of #metoo.

Let’s relegate rape culture to the dustbin of history.
