Not reporting your own abuse might save your life.

Do you think it’s selfish for a victim of sexual assault to never come forward?

NO.

Depending on the power of an abuser (think of the most infamous current example) who …

  1. Can use society’s most powerful “legal” (not necessarily ethical) apparatus to make that victim’s life a never-ending nightmare; and
  2. Has shown a propensity to use said apparatus, coupled with personal wealth, in order to bring and sustain nuisance lawsuits to silence victims, anyone that simply disagrees with them, or simply because they got a wild hair up their ass that minute, …

The victim(s) in question might lose their reputation, livelihood, and actual life trying to tell the truth and get justice.

So, again, no. Depending on the victim, the abuser, and the situation, not coming forward might be a very viable survival strategy for the abused.

And even if you think you know who I’m talking about, I’m talking about anyone that can use privilege and wealth to take advantage of others.
