Why is the song “Baby it’s cold outside” suddenly so controversial? What is suddenly so offensive that never was before?
Because we see the potential rapists and we can’t unsee them.
Note that I’m not saying any of the principals in the song are those rapists.
In 1940s America, it may have been the genuinely innocent banter of two horny individuals that couldn’t be direct about their attraction because of social mores. Honestly, how much did that situation suck?
What I mean is rapists that absolutely do (and did) mean harm can no longer hide in plain sight behind a seemingly innocent quip. There’s no more social license and that’s a good thing.
There are better sexy songs demonstrating good, unquestionable consent.
