Authoritarians Build Missing Staircase Traps.

This is my response to This Christianity Today scandal doesn’t surprise me at all.

“Missing stairs” doesn’t accurately describe these dudes.  They’re missing staircases with missing foundations: gaping holes in the ground covered up by balloons shaped like stairs.

Mark Galli? → 🕳️

Olatokunbo Olawoye? → 🕳️

Gilbert Bilezikian? → 🕳️

Bill Hybels? → 🕳️

John Ortberg III? → 🕳️

They just wait for their victims to step on and fall in.  Then they can artfully claim their victims should have watched their steps (even though the abusers intentionally lured those steps into their camouflaged pits).

Man alive, it’s gonna be great when evangelical pew-warmers realize that the problem here isn’t bad apples or pushing the wrong doctrines. Rather authoritarian structure itself creates space for evangelical abuse scandals. And no gods seem interested in stopping any of it.

So it’s up to people to do the job.
